Play Park Group

Bridge of Weir Play Park Improvement Group

In January 2007, a group of local parents came together to raise funds to improve the play parks in Bridge of Weir for the benefit of children and their families in the village and beyond. Although the Group has had the backing of Renfrewshire Council, the local authority isn't able to provide the funds necessary for park redevelopment.

As well as the Council, the Group has gained support from local schools, nurseries, churches, health agencies and the police who have recognised the potential for better parks to have a positive impact on children's health (e.g. childhood obesity) and the well-being of other residents.

The Group's first project was the Houston Road Park, on the outskirts of the village. Over the course of 2007, the Group raised sufficient funds in record time to create a first-class facility for children's play. The new playpark was officially opened at the 2008 Gala Day. Further equipment for older children will be added over the remainder of 2008.

Next Phase - The Glen and Lintwhite Park

Spurred on by their success, the Group is now turning its attention to the other, run-down playparks in the village. We are determined to create excellent recreational facilities for children and their families across the whole village.

How Can You Help?

The support of major organisations is great, but we also need the support and input of people in the village if we're going to be successful.

At this time we are very keen to gather ideas on how the Glen and the Lintwhite park could be successfully developed.

If you've got some great ideas about either park, please contact either:
