Community Council Report

The next meeting of the Bridge of Weir Community Council promises to be full of lively debate.

A major item for discussion will be Renfrewshire Councils Housing and Community Safety Board's decision to sell off Moss Road Park to accommodate a large retail and housing development in the Park and surrounding area.

The Community Council learned of this from a report by a neighbouring Councillor in a local monthly publication.

The Community Council and residents of the Village were not consulted by either our Local Councillors or Officials of Renfrewshire Council on this matter.

The proposals include releasing the land to Dawn Developments in conjunction with land owned by Sustrans it will include re-alignment of the Main Road and alterations to the Cycle Path Route.
Questions have to be asked what effect will this have on the Village Centre is this the end of any future Railway Link?
At the time of going to print the Community Council have contacted the Head of Planning Renfrewshire Council, Dawn Developments, and Sustrans inviting them to meet us to discuss the matter further.
Sustrans have responded indicating it's not a matter for them what others do with land they may sell off this we find surprising coming from a charity funded and gifted by mainly public sources.

Another major topic for discussion will be proposals in the Renfrewshire Councils draft Local Development Plan. Renfrewshire Council seems willing to release land at the Old Station, behind Neva Place, adjacent to Bulls Garage Main Street and at Ranfurly Castle Golf Course Donaldfield Road.

The Community Council have learned a much welcomed part of Renfrewshire's budget for 2012 / 2013 will include an upgrade to the frontage of Neva Place the meeting will discuss the timescale of this proposal.

The meeting will beheld in The Cargill Hall on Tuesday the 7th February at 7pm.
