The Community Council were informed that there were new directives regarding the reports that would be given each month and that there would be requests for feedback from the Community Councils. Priorities would be identified and it is hoped that the responses to the feedback would help the police to improve their performance.
Several areas of concern were pointed out and these included the Cycle Path, The Viaduct and Mill 'O' Gryffe Road.
At present the order of priority was
1. Drunk and disorderly behaviour
2. Assault and violent crime
3. Housebreaking

Assault and violent crime appeared as the number one priority in other areas but on the whole it is not really an issue in Bridge of Weir
Two members of the Warden Service were introduced and gave a very informative talk of what their work entailed and the Community Council were surprised to discover the extent of the area that so few wardens had to cover. ( Linwood, Houston, Crosslee, Bridge of Weir, Langbank are only some of the areas covered)
Their responsibilities were also very varied: illegal car parking, dog fouling, litter offences, fly-tipping, smoking bans, graffiti, drug offences and noise levels.
The speakers then gave examples of the number of offences in Bridge of Weir compared to the number in Renfrewshire as a whole in the first quarter of the year.

e.g. Parking Offences Bridge of Weir 10 Renfrewshire 3022
Litter Bridge of Weir 14 Renfrewshire 107
Regarding graffiti, the bill to remove this was 15,319 for the first four months of this year in the area that they covered.

The wardens are called to remove needles left by drug users and they stressed that all information on this type of offence, as with others, is treated in the strictest confidence.
The number to use when wishing to call the Warden Service directly is 0141 889 4399.
The Acting Chairman then thanked the wardens for attending the meeting and for their most interesting talk.

TREASURER'S REPORT:

SECRETARY'S REPORT:

Community Planning Conference, anyone wishing to attend, please advise the Secretary.

COUNCILLOR'S REPORT: Councillor Langlands.

Councillor Langlands explained that the decision to lower the speed limit for Houston Road will be taken at a meeting tomorrow. Apparently our three Councillors have been lobbying for a 30mph limit and hopefully they will be successful.
There are also several other roads in the area that the lowering of the speed limit is being considered.

He also informed the meeting that it is not necessary to have a designated dog bin, dog waste if properly wrapped can be placed in any waste bin.

The parking issues at Bridge of Weir Primary School have not been improved by having Keep Clear lines put in place.
Councillor Langlands has requested that the Community Council be included in all future correspondence.

The parking situation on Warlock Road is causing concern even when cars are parked on the pavement it is very difficult if not impossible for two large vehicles such as buses or lorries to pass each other. Information regarding the legal requirements of road widths will be made.

PLANNING: XMAS LIGHTS:

The switch on of the Christmas Lights will take place on Wednesday 1st December.

There was rather a poor turnout of walkers and cyclists for the Go Bridge of Weir Day held on Sunday 29th May which may in some part have been due to the adverse weather.

AOCB:

The Local Housing Strategy will be available from June 16th.

A request was made that the situation regarding the removal of the Goal Posts from Moss Road Park be looked into again. A resource that local children had been using had been removed due, it would appear to the fact that a local football team now used the park. However the team uses portable goal posts that are stored after each football game or training session.

Date and time of next meeting.

The next regular meeting of the Community Council will be held on Tuesday 6 September at 7.00pm in the Cargill Hall.

PLEASE NOTE DATE AND VENUE CHANGE.

THE NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON THURSDAY 1ST SEPTEMBER AT 7.00PM IN THE ROYAL BRITISH LEGION CLUB.
