Scottish League (Canada Cup)  Bridge of Weir 1   Mohawks 2

"Mohawks secured possession of the Canada Cup for this season when they defeated Bridge of Weir in a close game at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night.

The match, which fulfilled all expectations, was brimful of incident and Mohawks just deserved their success as they were superior in attack and consistently sound in defence. Bridge of Weir never struck a proper forward understanding and were slower in action than their opponents who skated better and showed a better positional sense.

The game in the later stages contained many heated passages and throughout the match so heavy was the checking that broken sticks had to be replaced on three occasions. Mohawks had the assistance of Dr A R Brady who had travelled from Liverpool for the match and in the early stages practically all Mohawks aggression came from the left wing. W G Lennox and J G Fyfe were also prominent for the winners.

A Ross made a brilliant full length save from Brady in the first period while J Fullerton scored Mohawks first goal at the start of the second period when he secured a rebound off Ross after a shot by T Craig had been only partially saved. Bridge of Weir then secured the equalising goal when I S McLeod through weak defence found himself in a splendid position to score. Mohawks again went into the lead when Fyfe took the puck the full length of the ice to beat Ross with a clean cut drive from a fine position.

In the final period, Mohawks appeared to have scored a third goal when Brady closed in and shot away from Ross but the puck rebounded and the goal was not allowed.

The teams were;

Bridge of Weir: A Ross; G D Rowley and J K Woodrow; A F Reid, W M Muirhead and R E Muirhead.- A E McLeod, I S McLeod and W S McLeod.

Mohawks: W G Lennox; J G Fyfe and T Shearer; J Fullerton, T Craig and Dr A R Brady.- A Fullerton and E K Reid.

Referee: D B A Carty (SIHA).
