Scottish League (Canada Cup) Bridge of Weir 1 Glasgow University 3

"Glasgow University, who scored three goals in as many minutes of the first period, secured a most unexpected victory over Bridge of Weir in a league match at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night.

Bridge of Weir's remarkable downfall was almost entirely attributable to the absence of their regular goaltender, A Ross, as his deputy was obviously completely inexperienced and was replaced by J K Woodrow in the second period.

Bridge of Weir were first to attack through I S McLeod and M D Brennan but play proceeded to go in favour of the University whose shooting was off the mark until F McLernan broke through to score, J A Easton following with two well taken goals in rapid succession.

On resuming, Bridge of Weir took up the attack but were obviously shaken by their deficit and several clever attacks were poorly finished. W G McDonald and Brennan were outstanding, the latter finally making his way through to score a wonderful goal.

The University had to defend grimly in the final period to retain their lead, A G Garnock in goal and R H Gardiner doing particularly fine work in repelling the onslaught of their opponents. W S McLeod, Brennan and W M Muirhead all had likely attempts while Easton and A J McCabe had several spasmodic counter raids for the students."

Bridge of Weir: W McLachlan; M D Brennan and W G McDonald; W S McLeod, I S McLeod and W M Muirhead.- J K Woodrow.

Glasgow University: A G Garnock; R H Gardiner and F McLernan; J O McCabe, J A Easton and A J McCabe.- A F Thomson, J C Henderson and I H Borland.

Referee: A S Dick (Kelvingrove).
