Scottish League (Canada Cup)   Bridge of Weir 1   Kelvingrove 2

"Kelvingrove deservedly defeated their great rivals in this Canada Cup match at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night. It was a fast and exciting game from start to finish and though at times robust checking was apparent on both sides, it was a good and sporting contest.

Bridge of Weir had an equal share of the play but they played much too closely up the centre of the ice and Kelvingrove's wider methods of attacking were the more successful especially as the Bridge of Weir defence in the early stages was not so steadfast as usual. All three goals scored were of the soft variety.

R E Muirhead had a great run through for Bridge of Weir in the first minute and only a very daring save by D Cross rescued Kelvingrove. After A Ross had partially cleared, W S Montford scored for Kelvingrove while later J Campbell was ordered off the ice for bringing down R E Muirhead after the latter had a fine effort. Just before the end of the first period, Campbell had a fine first time shot for Kelvingrove but Ross saved well.

W M Muirhead came into prominence for Bridge of Weir in the second period with a good shot. Campbell replied with two fine drives, J Collins providing the opportunity for the first effort. Cross then saved well on two occasions while Campbell at the other end had a great low effort. Following an altercation between A S Dick and J K Woodrow both players were ordered off. After A F Reid had tested Cross, Dick was again ordered off for a harsh check on him. Just before the second period closed, Campbell just missed for Kelvingrove with a good effort.

Campbell increased Kelvingrove's lead at the start of the final period with a long shot which dipped on its flight and so deceived Ross. Montford was ordered off for bringing down G D Rowley and then Ross saved from Campbell. Later, Rowley was again right through for Bridge of Weir but Collins brought him down and then I S McLeod was ordered off for tripping Campbell. Both K Hurll and Campbell in succeeding play were sent to the bench for interfering with R E Muirhead and Reid respectively. In the last minute, Rowley scored for Bridge of Weir with a shot that Collins just diverted outwith the reach of Cross."
