Mitchell Trophy Bridge of Weir 1 Dennistoun Eagles 1
"Dennistoun gained great credit when they drew their first round Mitchell Trophy tie at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night after one of the fiercest games ever played in Scotland.
As a spectacle, the game never contained even momentary spells of really clever combined play by either of the sides and until Dennistoun equalised play was very drab and uninteresting. Then however both sides put all their energy into the fray and there were continual stoppages for unlawful tactics.
In the first period, W M Muirhead sent the puck in front of the goal from behind and A S Gray just managed to intercept the pass. W S McLeod then scored for Bridge of Weir with a splendid shot.
There was great excitement when in the second period, Dennistoun equalised in a surprise raid. W W Russell's shot travelled wide of the goal but S Stevenson passed the puck cleverly back and J H Borland, who had anticipated the move, crashed the puck past A Ross. J F Logan had a grand save from I S McLeod and W G McDonald was sent off when he brought down Stevenson.
Logan had a fine save from from W S McLeod in the final period and then from McDonald. W S McLeod had another good effort but Logan was equal to the task and then Russell twice, J K Woodrow and McDonald were all penalised for infringements in succeeding play."
