Scottish League (Canada Cup)   Bridge of Weir 3   Bears 0

"Bridge of Weir, last season's league champions, scored an easy win over Bears in the opening league game at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night. But for poor finishing, Bridge of Weir's winning margin over their opponents who were under strength might have been larger.

Both sides were slow to settle down with the result that much of the early play lacked sparkle and there was much of the bustling but ineffective endeavour associated with an opening game.

In the first period, the only features of note were a fine piece of stickhandling by I S McLeod who came close to scoring for Bridge of Weir while the Bears defence pair took part in a clever raid but A Ross saved brilliantly from J R Gilmour's shot.

Immediately following the face off in the second period, W G McDonald scored a smart goal for Bridge of Weir. An attack by Bears resulted in shots from C H Russell and J Johnstone. A series of attacks by Bridge of Weir followed during which W M Muirhead had a goal disallowed.

The pressure was maintained in the third period and a goal soon followed by W S McLeod during a scramble. Several elusive individual runs by McDonald then provided the few thrills of the match. Bridge of Weir's third goal followed with a short range flick by I S McLeod near the end."
