Mitchell Trophy Bridge of Weir 0 Kelvingrove 3
"A large crowd of spectators at the Scottish Ice Rink, Crossmyloof, Glasgow last night witnessed a remarkably thrilling encounter between Bridge of Weir and Kelvingrove in the first round tie of the Mitchell Trophy tournament. Kelvingrove's victory by three clear goals gave little indication of the run of the game in which the losers had an equal share of the play which was interesting from start to finish.
Although chief credit went to the keen combined play and alertness near goal of the Kelvingrove attack both defences played well while D Cross's fine form in goal was in no small measure responsible for his side's success. Bridge of Weir on the other hand appeared to concentrate too much on attack at times leaving opportunities which their opponents were quick to seize.
W G McDonald and W S McLeod both had shots which were wide of the mark for Bridge of Weir in the opening minutes but following a clever run and shot from A J Tingley for Kelvingrove, W S Montford scored a spectacular goal. Both goals then underwent pressure in turn during speedy end to end play.
W S McLeod broke through early in the second period but nothing came of the effort. A raid on the Bridge of Weir goal was then turned to account by Tingley who soon after shot past as did Montford a minute later. Bridge of Weir then took up the attack and McDonald, M D Brennan and W S McLeod all came close to scoring during the keen tussle that followed.
Bridge of Weir gave of their best only in the final session and despite hard checking appeared likely to reduce the leeway but shot after shot was either saved or went wide. A faulty clearance by the Bridge of Weir defence during a period of attack by Kelvingrove was then cleverly seized upon by Tingley for a third goal."
